Study Shows More Americans Using Real Estate Agents Than Ever Before

More and more people are deciding to become homeowners in today’s society. This is especially true down south, with almost 1,000 people being added to Florida’s population each day. But how are people choosing to buy and sell their homes? Well, a recent study found that more people than ever are utilizing the help of real estate agents.

According to a Harris Insights housing consumer study, which was produced by California Association of Realtors, The CE Shop and REAL Trends, a whole 90% of consumers in the U.S. are using realtors or a realty company when it comes time to sell their home or look into buying new houses.

The report looked at 1,000 people who had sold or purchased a home within the last six months. Compared to the last study in 2014, this percentage has gone up 5% and it’s gone up 9% from the first study in 2001.

And contrary to popular belief, more millennials are using real estate agents than baby boomers. Whether it’s looking for new construction properties, Riva condos for sale, or any other property, 91% of people between the ages of 18 and 34 used real estate services. So despite the idea that millennials are solely relying on technology for selling and buying homes, older generations are the ones that are using realtors less — just 81% of people ages 55 and older said they used a real estate agent to help with their transactions.

Along with younger aged buyers and sellers using realtors, those with more education and higher incomes were more likely to use realtors. About 94% of people with college degrees and 98% of those who had an income between $75,000 and $100,000 used realty services.

When it comes to actually choosing a realtor, “referrals from people I trust” was ranked the most important factor when choosing a real estate agent. Other important factors were “looking at websites with ratings of agent’s performances”, “finding agents who had listings like my home”, and “having a personal relationship with the agent”.
